About SEED Foundation:

SEED Foundation (SEED) is a registered charity organization in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, whose mission is to promote the Kurdistan Region’s (KRI) social, educational and economic development, human rights, and to address the humanitarian needs of the residents of the region. SEED works with survivors of violence and conflict in the KRI to help them rebuild their lives. SEED takes a comprehensive approach to recovery, integrating psychotherapy and case management services with a range of vocational, educational and recreational activities, to reduce symptoms of trauma, empower and protect survivors, and improve individual and family well-being. SEED also works to improve the skills of local psychologists and other service providers through education, training and supervision programs to better equip them to help individuals and communities heal. Finally, SEED works with local institutions and others to promote laws, policies, and procedures that promote human rights and the protection of the most vulnerable. Our work reflects international best practices and expertise, combined with local know-how and understanding. 

 

Role of the Case Manager

SEED Foundation is seeking a case manager to provide services to protect, empower and support the recovery of vulnerable Iraqis through comprehensive mental health and psychosocial support services to survivors of torture, trafficking, and gender-based violence, as well as members of religious and ethnic minorities in the KRI. The case manager will work with clients to holistically address their needs through mobile services across the KRI, primarily in Dohuk governorate. While all case managers will receive training and supervision, successful candidates must be compassionate, confident, diligent, trustworthy, resourceful, interested in learning new skills, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. The case manager must be willing and interested in working with team members and clients of different religious, ethnic, cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds. All services will be provided in accordance with international ethical standards.

We are seeking a candidate to start in July 2017 in Dohuk on 6 months to a 12 months contract. This position reports directly to the Case Management Team Lead.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Specific Tasks:

• Provide confidential critical care to potential clients and their families throughout KRI (primarily within Dohuk governorate) through mobile services, including a brief needs assessment and provision of psychosocial support in order to determine the survivor's interest in and the need for continued services.

• Facilitate referrals to partner agencies providing services in accordance with the Standard of Care, as needed per each individual case. Ensure particularly complicated cases are identified and referred to the Case Management Team Lead.

• Provide confidential ongoing MHPSS services to clients and their families, as needed, to include the collaborative development of a Case Plan using SMART goals.

• Document all interactions with clients or other contacts in relation to a client's case in accordance with SEED's case management system.

• Develop and facilitate effective group sessions, as relevant to the population being served.

• Participate in supervision sessions with the Case Management Team Lead and MHPSS Project Manager, as required.

• Attend relevant training sessions, as assigned, to ensure that the highest quality services can be delivered.

• Participate in the development and implementation of outreach and community engagement plans.

• Support the development and utilization of a camp-specific referral pathway for SGBV cases.

• Maintain positive relationships with program partners.

Perform other duties as necessary, as assigned by supervisor.

 

Essential criteria

• University degree in social work, psychology or related field, or a minimum 2 years of professional experience as a social/case worker/case manager within an NGO.

• Experience providing case management, basic psychosocial support services, and community outreach; experience providing psychological first aid a plus.

• Experience working with IDPs, refugees, survivors of SGBV, and other populations experiencing a lack of social protection and social inequalities.

• Strong belief in human rights and gender equality.

• Good interpersonal skills including the ability to gain trust and build relationships with team members and clients.

• Strong computer skills.

• High standard of spoken and written Arabic or Kurdish; English is a plus.

• Ability to work in a stressful setting and adapt quickly to changing environment.
